Sherway Gardens will be the rest stop for riders making the 100 km one-way ride from McMaster University in Hamilton on June 13th. Sears Executives, Sherway Gardens Management, tenant employees and members of the community will be welcoming riders and showing their support and encouragement. Tents will be set up in the northeast corner of the parking lot, opposite the Home Depot, where food and beverages, mechanical and medical support will be available to cyclists when the ride continues with the Etobicoke Stage, a 20km one-way ride starting at Sears Canada in Sherway Gardens and finishing at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto.

The Coast to Coast Against Cancer Foundation and retail giant Sears Canada have teamed up to raise awareness and approximately $1.5 million for children living with and beyond cancer. The Sears National Kids Cancer Ride begins on June 2, 2008, where cyclists will start the 19-day, 7,600km trans-Canada odyssey from Vancouver to Halifax, linking pediatric oncology centers from coast to coast. There are 50 selected National Riders traversing the entire distance who will be joined along the way by thousands of other cyclists riding shorter 25km to 200 km distances in and around Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary, Winnipeg, Thunder Bay, London, Toronto, Kingston, Ottawa, Montreal, Quebec City and Halifax.

In Canada, 1700 children are diagnosed with cancer each year. Although great strides in treatment and care have been made, childhood cancer is still the leading disease-related cause of death for Canadian children. While over 75% of children survive cancer, more than 50% of survivors of childhood cancer face after effects of their disease and treatment, including neurocognitive impairments, sterility and secondary cancers. Childhood cancer has a devastating effect on parents, siblings, extended family, friends and communities everywhere.

The Sears National Kids Cancer Ride is a journey of life that will touch the hearts and minds of Canadians from coast to coast. The 2008 National Riders have been selected, but Stage Riders can still register at www.nationalkidscancerride.com.
