Sculpture Show by Mukul Mishra. Mishra reflects, through the unique forms of his creations, an aspect of contemporary sculpture that has recently emerged in India . The images made from various materials articulate their intrinsic qualities exposing the sculptors singular individualism in technique while echoing his personal experience. By giving his pieces an abstract mould Mishra manages to fill them with a completely new force. Born and brought up in Jaipur, Mishra is the third generation in a family of sculptors. Surrounded by this art form it was inevitable for him to take the same route. Although his grandfather studied in JJ School of Art, Mumbai, Mukul and his father chose the Sculpture University of Rajasthan to create their singular individualism in this medium. Mukul, (age), shows great maturity in his work for one so young, excelling in this art form; equally at ease working with marble, clay and bronze, he appears to have an instinctive rapport with all these materials. In Basic Extinct 2, a marble and bronze fusion, Mishra labours with a modernist resolve, demonstrating the proficiency and expertise of the adept sculptor,. The marble triangle piece with an open space in the centre is connected to small bronze pieces of different shapes and sizes that appear to be in motion. The piece enjoys the mysterious contrast of the two materials, communicating a strong contemporary thrust. Juxtaposed with a human profile in bronze, Mishra lets the viewer draw his own conclusions about this work. In Basic Extinct 1 Mishra creates a unique bronze figure with different abstract angles. The face is confounded by joy, desire and ambition while the rest of the body conveys other sentiments through an exciting image. As one side takes the form of a female breast the other is locked in, displaying the constraints women encounter in their daily life, revealing the artists insight and vision, elevating his sculpture into a perceptive art form. 'I am trying to portray the desire and ambition of life. The limitations and boundaries people face, particularly women. However their overwhelming basic extinct makes them rise above the shortcomings and achieve more out of life, to make them complete human beings.' The Joyful Life has an exuberance that portrays an uninhibited zest for life. A vigorous sexuality pervades through the sheer vibrancy of the images as it strikes the eye and imagination, generating a passionate mood that compels the gaze of the beholder.
