The Coolidge Corner Theatre kicks off a brand-new season of its popular Science on Screen series with a presentation of the classic medical thriller Coma and a talk by Robin Cook, physician and author of the bestselling novel on which the film is based.

Director Michael Crichton's big-screen adaptation of Cook's page-turner features Genevieve Bujold as a feisty surgical resident who will stop at nothing to find out why so many patients, all young and relatively healthy, have fallen into comas after routine operations at Boston Memorial Hospital.

Before the film, Robin Cook will talk about some of the medical and ethical issues portrayed in Coma. Widely known as the master of the medical thriller genre, he is the author of 27 New York Times bestsellers. Dr. Cook graduated from Columbia University Medical School and completed his postgraduate medical training at Harvard.

With Science on Screen, the Coolidge presents a feature film or documentary based in science, along with exciting introductions by notable figures from the worlds of science, medicine, and technology. Launched in 2005, this monthly series is co-presented by the Museum of Science, Boston and New Scientist magazine.
