Maria Tiimon, a brave and compelling young woman balances her personal life with her advocacy work captured beautifully in The Hungry Tide. Directed by Tom Zubrycki, The Hungry Tide is screening on Monday 6 August at Riverside Theatres as part of the Screen Café series.

The central Pacific nation of Kiribati is a country most vulnerable to climate change. Sea level rise is threatening the lives of 105,000 people spread over 33 atolls in this remote corner of the Pacific.

Maria Tiimon, a Kiribati woman living in Sydney, has the task of alerting the world to her sinking homeland, and must muster the courage to take her country’s message to the 2009 Copenhagen Climate Change Conference and Cancun.

Screen Café is a series of monthly film screenings at Riverside Theatres which brings film enthusiasts and filmmakers together to watch, learn, discuss and network in a candid, interactive and inclusive atmosphere.
