Besides visible white light (a combination of the colors of the rainbow), the sun emits other kinds of radiation like X-rays, ultraviolet, infrared, and radio waves. Our eyes cannot see ultraviolet light, but many natural and man-made materials react to ultraviolet light by giving off light of their own.
