A captivating performance of four beautifully affecting compositions including;
Mozart’s Symphony No 25, Ravel’s Pavane & Le Tombeau de Couperin
and Beethoven’s Symphony No 7

Conducted by Thomas Tsai, the incredibly talented young musicians of the SBS Youth Orchestra bring their concert, A Chamber of Delights to Riverside on Sunday, 29 April at 3pm.

This fantastic programme covers three of the most important and inspiring genres for young players aspiring to become professional musicians. It covers a wide range of emotion and styles with exciting parts and solos for all instrument groups.

The repertoire includes French composer Ravel’s exquisite composition, Pavane, which was later adapted to become Doris Day’s The Lamp is Low. Also from Ravel, the SBS Youth Orchestra is playing Le Tombeau de Couperin, which was written while Ravel served in the French Army during WW1. Mozart is said to have written Symphony No 25 in two days at the age of seventeen, to this day this piece remains an outstanding musical achievement. Similarly, Beethoven’s Symphony No 7 is a well loved and respected piece of classical music and Beethoven’s conducting of the premiere of this piece is legendary.

The SBS Radio & Television Youth Orchestra was formed in 1988 by Russian-born conductor Matthew Krel with the help of the Special Broadcasting Service in Sydney. One of its unique aims is to give young musicians experience in performing for national broadcast on television and radio. Its members are aged twelve to twenty-four. The Orchestra is culturally rich, playing pieces from a range of diverse composers and touring to a wide range of countries.
