Riverside Theatres presents
SBS Youth Orchestra-Turbulent Reflections
Sunday 16 March at 3:00pm
One performance only

Big Notes favourite SBS YOUTH ORCHESTRA returns with Wagner’s World- Turbulent Reflections at the Riverside Theatres on Sunday 16 March for one performance only. Under the baton of Artistic Director and Founding Director Matthew Krel, the concert will, concentrate on one of the most controversial composers of the 19th century, Richard Wagner( 1813-1883).

Wagner’s richly expressive, grand and intensively illustrative music dominated his era and had a profound effect on the music and the composers to follow. The works of Puccini, Holst and Tchaikovsky featured on this program reflect Wagner’s belief that music and drama must be one and indivisible.

The SBS YOUTH ORCHESTRA will present the Overture from Meistersingers and the Entr’acte from Act 3 of Lohengrin. They will also perform Puccini’s Symphonic Prelude, Holst’s Mars the Bringer of War from The Planets and Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No 5.

The unique SBS YOUTH ORCHESTRA was formed in 1988 by the Russian- born Matthew Krel with the help of the Special Broadcasting Service. One of its aims is to give young musicians experience in performing for national broadcast on television and radio.
