SBS Youth Orchestra March 27, 2010

The SBS Youth Orchestra opens its 2010 season with the world premiere performance of Urban Concerto for Guitar and Orchestra by Australian Composer Alan Zavod performed by the brilliant guitarist Slava Grigoryan. This special SBS Youth Orchestra Concert is on at Riverside Theatres on Sunday March 28 at 3pm for one performance only.

The concert features two special conductors, Dr Joanna Drimatis, who has been appointed as the new musical director of the SBS Youth Orchestra and Dr Geoff Garnter, a former member of the orchestra, who recently returned from the United States to continue his musical career in Australia. This delightful concert also includes a celebration of the diversity of cultures through a wide-ranging repertoire that includes Wagner’s Liebestod, Brahms’ Variations on a Theme by Haydn, selections from the ballet Spartacus by Khatchaturian and Peter Sculthorpe’s Small Town.
