On February 7th our dear friend and neighbor, Cowboy Keith Thompson, was hit by a car while riding his scooter through Five Points. His injuries were extensive (left leg and right arm both out of commission), and he had no health insurance. The insurance from the driver of the car wasn't enough to cover his medical expenses the first week, much less future medical bills and lost wages. Cowboy is expected to be out of work for at least 3 to 4 months, maybe more, and more surgeries on his leg could be necessary.
Friends of Cowboy Keith have organized a benefit to help him pay his monthly expenses until he's back on (both of) his feet.

Sunday March 29th the East Nashville community will host this two-part event with something for all ages.

The Scooter Poker Run:

This event is open to the public and in order to participate you must have your own scooter. Meet up is noon at 107 N. 11th Street 37206, the purple building across from Red Door. Refreshments are being provided by Bongo Java East and Erica's Legendary Banana Bread. The run has scheduled stops at Mitchell's Deli, Eastside Scooters, Katy K's and Grimey's. Oliver is leading the way and he's taking the scenic route. The scooter run is scheduled to arrive back in Five Points at approximately 2:30pm.

Food!

Crazy Calvin's BBQ will be serving up fresh BBQ, sandwiches, hot dogs, burgers and more.. The food tent will be set up in the Cumberland Hardware corner lot, just behind Marche and across from the BP. Proceeds will benefit the Save Cowboy Keith fund.

Mas Tacos will have her truck and her tacos ready to go! A percentage of sales will be donated to the Save Cowboy Keith fund.

Pied Piper Creamery is also donating a percentage of her day's sales to the benefit, so it's a good day to indulge the kids...and yourself!

Silent Auction:

We have a HUGE silent auction list that's still being put onto the site piece by piece. By the end of the weekend we hope to have a photo gallery so that you can see for yourself the wealth of items available, including gift certificates, art, jewelry, clothing, concert tickets, and rare music memorabilia. We have donations from over 45 businesses and artists including Scooter shops from around the Southeast, Grimey's, Katy K's, Asphalt Beach, The Hip Zipper, Hillbilly Casino, BR549, The Black Crowes, Brooks & Dunn and Todd Snider. The auction will be inside the purple building across from Red Door at 107 N. 11th Street, 37206. Bidding will open at 2pm and end at 5pm. Winning bidders will be notified by mobile phone, and payment and pickup must occur between 5:30 and 6pm. We will accept cash, Mastercard, Visa and AmEx.

DJ Heath Haynes is bringing his hugely popular Soul Dance Party outside of the 5 Spot and into the parking lot between Music Mercantile and the Purple Building. Heath is known for his perfect selection of 50's and 60's dance music, the kind that EVERYONE enjoys! Much thanks to The 5 Spot for donating turntables! The music will start at 2pm and go until you can't shake it anymore.

The Howling Brothers & Chris Scruggs will conduct a 'Musical Petting Zoo' for kids of all ages in conjunction with Eastside Music Mercantile. There will be instrument demonstrations, as well as the opportunity for children to try out various instruments with skilled instructors. The Musical Petting Zoo will begin at 2:30 on the lawn of Eastside Music Mercantile (or inside in the event of bad weather).

At 3:30 Hooprama brings the Hoop Jam to the lawn of the Eastside Music Mercantile, and with DJ Heath Haynes on the turntables there will be great tunes to hoop to.
