[ K O N T R O L ]

minimal techno + avant house
every 1st Saturday at The Endup

featuring a 3 man LIVE performance
by Parisian pranksters:

:::::: dOP ::::::

(Circus Company . Watergate . Supplement Facts)

Prepare for all out dance floor mayhem as [KONTROL]
welcomes dOP, the white-hot trio from Paris, to our
stage for their exclusive West Coast debut! Known for
their lively and interactive performances, dOP consists
of two musicians and a live vocalist. This is certainly no
dude-checking-his-email-behind-a-laptop affair, but
rather one of the most exciting and sought-after live acts
on the planet right now. Their wildly unique hip-hop and
jazz-inflected sound has won them appearances at top
clubs including Watergate, Fabric, Pacha, Rex, and
Raum, as well as major festivals such as MUTEK,
Unsound, and this year's DEMF. With an upcoming mix
CD for Watergate and their debut LP set to drop
later this year, these guys are about to blow up bigtime.
Be there for the spectacle, or hear about it later!

plus special guests:

::: dOP :::

dOP - "Die Band mit Glied." "Deep music, organic style, from Paris." These three arguments are the best way to describe the new band project dOP which was created by Clement Aichelbaum (beat programming), Damien Vandesande (keyboards and horns) and Jonathan Illel (lyrics and vocals).

All three were born in 1980 and have known each other for over 20 years now. The first music project they did together was a rock'n'roll cover band for the Music Day in France in 1994. After this, the guys made many experiences in different music styles like hip-hop, jazz and reggae and also started several band projects. An important influence for their musical career was the African state Mali. Because one of their best friends is Toumani Sangare (movie director) who invited Jonathan, Damien and Clement to Mali several times and introduced them to a lot of Malian folk composer like Ali Farka Tour, Sibiri Samake and Cheick Tidiane Seck. They made music together and released some records on the label Mali K7.

Five years ago they started composing electronic music in their own style. From this point dOP was born and the first high rated realeses and remixes on the labels MilnorModern, Circus Company, Eklo and Einmaleins followed in 2007 and 2008. Another important and famous person for their development in this business was Nicolas Sfintescu of Noze, because they share the same idea to make organic dance music in classical way of composing with real instruments and voice. Not only thinking about music, also dividing the studio and sharing instruments is the best way to delineate the relationship between them.

Here you can see their love for playing and collecting organic instruments such as flutes, horns, percussions, glockenspiel, saxophone and many more. Most of the time they are together in the studio and work in a very collective way. This is also a very big tick for the amity between them, because most of the time they do all things together. Illness is also no reason to not stay together! That is why you can feel their emotions in the music and also the messages about life with the lyrics by Jonathan. For the french band it's very essential and traditional to speak about experiences, moments, past or future. dOP always try to give you a message. This are also reasons why they try to make something different every time and show their feelings between sad- and happiness in the songs!

An additional passion of the three boys is to work in cooperations with friends, like Noze, Catz'n'Dogz, Sety, Dave Aju, Varoslav, Guy Gerber, Dj Koze, Guillaume & the Cotu Dumonts or in the projects Armarberokay with friends from Kassel and Enliven dOP Acoustics from North Thuringia Germany.

In 2009 they released new EPs and tracks on Circus Company, Eklo, Supplement Fact, Mothership, Children of Tomorrow and Safari. Also they have done remixes for Get Physical, Rebirth, Peppermint Jam, Lezzismore, Electrochoc, Synchrophone , Brownswood Records and many more. In the future they work for the first album which can be expected in 2010!

Don't miss them on stage in the best clubs worldwide to enjoy the show and to get your own view if their music is dOP! "Schnall Dich an!"

::: TASHO :::

Tasho is a long time defender of the San Francisco dance community. As a resident of the timeless Stompy club night and the man behind one of SF's longest-running and most beloved house nights, Audible Colors at The Top, Tasho (nee Tasho Nicolopulous) has been bringing jam after jam to Bay-Area clubs for over a decade. Alongside production partner and vocal whiz Monty Luke, his first single for mothership ó ìParanoidî ó has had trainspotters clamoring for a sneak peak. Expect much more to come.

It's been a long time coming, and we are happy to finally host Tasho for an extended late night set in his [KONTROL] debut, spinning alongside birthday boy Sammy D.

::: CHRISTINA CHATFIELD :::

Christina Chatfield is best known as one half of the live techno outfit Monocle, but she has recently began branching out with her own musical productions & performances. As a live act, Chatfield eschews traditional DJing in lieu of an entirely original performance. Having honed her craft from numerous live shows as Monocle (who have played alongside Michael Mayer, Matthew Dear, Ryan Elliott, Cassy, etc), Christina's live performance has evolved the static set of a club DJ limited by the preset forms of their records, into a dynamic performance rarely seen in dance music.

Raised by two classical musicians, with a professional concert bassist as a brother, it's not necessarily surprising that Chatfield decided to pursue music. Her choice of genre might seem something of an anomaly to her family, but that can be attributed to growing up in Ohio, just a car ride away from the heyday of Detroit's techno scene. The music she heard obviously left a lasting impression on her, as she went on to study sound synthesis and music in college. It was then that she met Monocle partner Danny Patterson (aka Coupler), and the two began producing the ear- catching techno that would eventually lead its way onto Nightlight Music, Racecar Productions and into every worthwhile club in the Bay area.

With her first solo vinyl release slated for Detroit label Beretta Grey and gigs on the books at home and abroad, 2010 looks to be a breakout year for Chatfield.
