Brief Description: Saint John's Santa Monica 5000: Competitive and Friendly 5k and 10k runs on an ocean view course on the streets of Santa Monica. The course starts in Ocean Park, turns up historic Main Street and then to the bluffs above Santa Monica Beach. The finish is just before the Santa Monica Pier, which will be hosting the Post-Event Party.

POST EVENT PARTY AND EXPO ON THE WORLD FAMOUS SANTA MONICA PIER! Come to the Santa Monica Pier and check out the latest running gear (shoes and apparel), nutrition, some great food as well as some other great vendors. The expo will be open from 8:30am - 12 noon. The normal Pier operations will also be going on, so feel free to buy a ticket for a great Ferris wheel ride!

TRAINING RUNS - TUESDAY EVENINGS! Doing your first 5k? Or looking for a speed workout? Join us every Tuesday evening on the Pier. We're offering group training runs every Tuesday starting September 11 at 6:30pm. Meet at Rusty's Surf Ranch on the Pier and choose between a 5k or 10k run. We'll have some fun giveaways afterwards and hang out at Rusty's for some midweek grub. There's plenty of parking on the Pier ($7) or on surface lots just around the Pier. If you arrive before 6pm there is free parking at 2nd St. & Colorado.

RACE CATEGORIES / DIVISIONS We're offering different categories for all type of runners. Choose between Age Group (most of us), Elite (those really fast people), Team Competition (made up of 3 runners), and the Baby Jogger Division (bring out your baby and spend the day with other parents). There is no minimum age for the babies (but doctors recommend waiting to run until they can hold their head up).

All categories take off @ 8:00am. The start will be sectioned off by each wave starting with the Elites / Age Groupers / Media Mile / Baby Joggers. And with chip timing, you're time doesn't start until you cross the starting line!

LAS&F INVITATIONAL For the second time, Santa Monica is hosting the LAS&F Invitational - the elite wave featuring top athletes from around the Southland. Come see the top runners compete for prize money and world records!

Prize Money / Time Bonus Structure Santa Monica 5000 (Men and Women): 1st $1000 / 2nd $500 / 3rd $300.

Santa Monica 10000 (Men and Women): 1st Overall $500 / 1st Santa Monica Resident* $200 * Winners must be able to present a driver's license with a valid Santa Monica address.

Santa Monica 5000 Time Bonuses (Men and Women): (Non-cumulative, only the highest time bonus is awarded) Men sub 14:20 $300, sub 14:35 $150 / Women sub 16:00 $300, sub 16:30 $150.

We'll be having goodie bag and bib number pick up on Saturday, October 20, 2007 at the New Balance Santa Monica store located at 2828 Wilshire Boulevard (at Yale), Santa Monica, CA 90403 from 10am - 4pm.
