Sangit Chintan - Musical Reflections - The Gayaki of Jaipur-Atrauli Gharana. A Presentation by Three Representatives of the Gharana. Rajshekhar Mansur. Shruti Sadolikar & Dinkar Panshikar. During 2009-2010, there will be a special emphasis on the educational aspect of Indian music. Several instructive programmes such as lecture-demonstrations, workshops, guided listening sessions, seminars and appreciation courses are planned to provide the music lovers, students and practitioners an opportunity to have an in-depth insight into the intricacies of Indian music. Supported by Vijay Rawal in the service of the arts. Music workshops are part of ongoing endeavour to combine performance with academic instruction and practical training, providing students and music-lovers an opportunity to have an in-depth understanding of a topic while also enhancing their own repertoire. As a part of this endeavour, there will be a series of workshops on the subject of 'Gharanas of khayal gayaki '. The first among this series is a presentation on the Jaipur-Atrauli gharana by Rajshekhar Mansur, Shruti Sadolikar and Dinkar Panshikar, representing three different streams of this gharana. They will present salient features of the gayaki of Jaipur-Atrauli gharana. The presentation will cover the gharana's approach to voice production, raga elaboration, techniques of improvisation, and the gharana's special repertoire of jod-ragas and bandishes. Sitar maestro Arvind Parikh will guide the discussion.
