The combined force of voices and instruments is a powerful, emotionally transformative experience that is unparalleled. The Sanford Dole Ensemble has, since 1991, celebrated this extraordinary union with a curatorial emphasis on contemporary musical works for voice and instruments.

This February, the Sanford Dole Ensemble returns to the stage after an eight-year semi-hiatus with a new program, Sacred Spaces, which highlights recent works by some of Britain’s leading composers. The program includes “Westminster Mass” by Roxanna Panufnik; “Dorchester Canticles” by Tarik O’Regan; plus works for voices and instruments by Thomas Adès and Jonathan Dove. All of the pieces were commissioned by and for English cathedrals and churches. Rounding out the program is a work by Boston composer, Jeffrey Brody, and a solo song by Sanford Dole, composed for St. Andrew’s Church in Sonoma. Performing on the concert are Jonathan Dimmock (organ); Jessica Schaeffer (harp); and Allen Biggs (percussion) plus a chorus 20-voices strong.

The program Sacred Spaces marks the re-emergence of this acclaimed professional company to the stage, with its unique mission to fill a void in musical performance – to explore the world of contemporary music written for the combination of voices and instruments. Sacred Spaces will be performed for one night only – don’t miss this extraordinary opportunity to experience this dynamic ensemble.
