“Sanctions and Services for Serious Adolescent Offenders” April 23, 2010

“Sanctions and Services for Serious Adolescent Offenders” will be the topic of a free public talk at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, by Edward Mulvey Ph.D., director of the Law and Psychiatry Research Program at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.

Mulvey will speak at 4 p.m. on Friday, April 23, in the Samuel P. “Pat” Black III Conference Center, located on the first floor of Penn State Behrend’s Research and Economic Development Center, 5101 Jordan Road. Parking will be available in the REDC deck off Technology Drive and at the Junker Center.

Mulvey has conducted several large-scale studies of the link between mental illness and violence, the accuracy of clinical judgment regarding the propensity for violence, and how adolescents develop into serious offenders. He has published empirical findings and conceptual articles in journals of psychiatry, psychology and criminology, and worked with federal agencies and local programs on prevention and treatment approaches for violent adolescents and adults. His presentation at Penn State Behrend is sponsored by the college’s degree programs in Psychology and Political Science and its Certificate in Crime, Psychology, and Public Policy program.
