San Francisco Girls Chorus Opens 2011-2012 Season Joined by Kitka November 6, 2011

Coming off its successful Cuban tour and selection as the first-ever U.S. finalist in Britain's BBC choral competition "Let the Peoples Sing," the five-time Grammy Award-winning San Francisco Girls opens its 33rd annual concert season with "Rural Inspirations." Joined by guest artist Kitka Women's Vocal Ensemble-one of the world's leading interpreters of Eastern European music and beyond-the Girls Chorus will present music inspired by world folk traditions. Two performances, November 4 at 8 pm in San Francisco and November 6 at 7:30 pm in Berkeley, will feature music by Kodaly, Bartok, Mellnas, Tormis and other Eastern European composers. Following a phenomenal 30th anniversary season that included featured performances at the Inauguration of President Barack Obama, a New York debut at Lincoln Center and unprecedented ticket sales, the San Francisco Girls Chorus has furthered its status as an internationally celebrated professional choral ensemble.
