Little Italy
San Diego, California

The music, dance, cuisine, art and culture of San Diego's vibrant Sicilian American community can be experienced at the 16th Annual Sicilian Festival on Sunday, May 17, 10 am-6 pm in the streets of San Diego's colorful and urban chic Little Italy. This free family event is the largest such festival in the nation dedicated to the heritage of the Sicilian Americans who settled on the shores of San Diego Bay in the early 20th century. Colorful costumes, lively music and dance by the nationally-acclaimed Roman Holiday Ensemble (http://www.romanholidaymusic.com), and some of the best food you will have this side of Palermo highlight the event, which also includes a cultural area featuring the heritage brought to San Diego by Sicilian immigrants. Visitors will also be able to relax at a wine and beer garden or shop among the many booths offering Italian-themed gifts and services. For the kids, there will be face painting, rides and a Sicilian puppet theatre to enjoy. A large tent will house a wide variety of displays that highlight the Sicilian history in the United States and, specifically, in San Diego.
