A Primetime Theatre Company Production. This is the dramatic story of Mahatma Gandhi, told by an ensemble of actors in a modern, lively rendering. 'Sammy' was a derogatory term for Indians and other coloured people in South Africa, originating ironically from the word 'swami' (master or guru). When he first hears an angry mob in Durban spewing the word at him, the young Mohan hopes to live up to it! The play, using his characteristic humour, shows his transformation from a naive, tongue-tied lawyer in South Africa to a shrewd politician, and finally, a Mahatma, who changed everyone he touched.
