The Samba Percussion Course is an intensive workshop designed to train students in the fundamentals of samba percussion, with a focus on the Carnaval rhythms of Rio de Janeiro's samba schools. There is no other course like this one being offered in New York City!

The January edition of the course will cover technique on the various instruments of the Bateria, as well as arrangements based on the original Samba New York! style and the styles of some of Rio's top samba schools. The class will also work on acquiring samba swing and understanding the rhythmic structure of samba.

Dates: Mondays, January 7 & 14; Tuesday, January 22; Monday, January 28
Time: 7:00 - 9:00 PM

Directions: By subway, take the 3 train to 148th St. There is a ramp leading to the school's free parking lot at 150th St. & Adam Clayton Powell.

Course Fee: All 4 classes for $90 (includes a $10 donation to Frederick Douglass for use of the instruments). Individual classes are $25 each.
