Somos Son brings the exciting dance rhythms of Cuba to Santa Barbara and the South Coast. The group, whose name translates as "We are Son," (pronounced "sone") plays the traditional Cuban Son dance music, as well as contemporary salsa. The band features Jose Elizarraraz and Hugo Macario on vocals and percussion in addition to Raul Rico, Jr., on timbales; Robert Gutierrez, congas; Karl Schiffmann, piano; Buddy Chops, bass, and Barry Nitikman, trumpet. The group has performed at many venues including regular appearances at SOhO and Ruby's, as well as performances at major festivals. Somos Son is also a favorite for weddings and corporate events.
