Sally Chandler Brings Latest Exhibit to Texas April 20, 2013

Texas artist, Sally Chandler brings her latest collection, The Lost World, to the Art Museum of Southeast Texas from Saturday, April 20 through Monday, June 3.

The Lost World boasts 86 paintings and drawings presenting a time capsule of a lost society. The gorgeous and moving exhibition enables viewers to explore a tableau of images including people, birds, animals, aristocratic estates, old libraries and landscapes. Chandler's work illustrates what she believes is an irretrievable past that is both mysterious and unsettling.

Previously shown at the Ogden Museum of Southern Art in New Orleans, this is The Lost World’s first Texas exhibit and only the second time it has ever shown.

“I’m thrilled to bring my work to Beaumont. My roots are in Texas and it’s always exciting to show my work here. The Art Museum of Southeast Texas is the perfect venue for ‘The Lost World’”, said artist Sally Chandler.

Born in West Texas, Chandler received her degree in history from Rutgers University. She studied art at the San Francisco Art Institute and at Instituto Allende in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. Her recent work is influenced by a variety of artists including John Singer Sargent, John Ruskin, and Maurice Prendergast, and the writings of Edith Wharton. Chandler was awarded an Artist in Residence from the Art Institute of Chicago summer program and has shown her work throughout the U.S. Her public collections have been seen at various venues throughout Houston including the Houston Museum of Natural Science. Chandler lives in Houston, TX.
