Sabadpiya Ki Khoj - Music Presentation and Discussion by Anand Thakore. This is a Chauraha presentation. In this informal session, Hindustani classical vocalist and poet, Anand Thakore 'Sabadpiya' will present and discuss the process of musical composition. Inspired by the legendary Kumar Gandharva, whose music he encountered at close quarters, and by his own guru, Satyasheel Deshpande, Anand was fascinated, while still in school, with the formalism and minimalism of the Hindustani bandish. He also developed an early interest in Braj poetry and composed his first lyrics and music in his mid-teens. The presentation will move from his earliest compositions to more recent work composed under the pen name 'Sabadpiya'. It will involve a discussion of various motivating factors and influences upon his own compositional processes, as well as a more general discussion on the aesthetics of the bandish as a form.
