FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE— Steve Hanson’s Gelatin Silver prints of local freeways empty of traffic provide eerie, off guard glimpses at otherwise regular scenes. The landscapes and skylines are easily recognizable but something seems wrong.

Artist Statement:

The Rush Hour series shows the United States freeways devoid of cars.
No Photoshop tricks or digital manipulations were used to create these images. Only traditional black and while photographic processes are used: black and white film, a film camera, and a photographic enlarger.
Steve Hanson grew up in Minneapolis, Minnesota and moved to Seattle in 1993 to attend the graduate program in Classical Philosophy at the University of Washington. While writing his dissertation on Aristotle’s biological works, he took art classes, concentrating on photography. He is currently taking classes at Photographic Center Northwest.
