An old joke has it thus: how do you get to Carnegie Hall? Practise, practise, practise. Well, Canadian singer-songwriter and erstwhile opera composer Rufus Wainwright has done more of his fair share of practising over the years. Part of the fabled Wainwright/McGarrigle musical dynasty, the piano-pounding Rufus is arguably the family’s fiercest talent, having for the past dozen years churned out a stream of ambitious pop miniatures and a full-length opera (Prima Donna). Wainwright’s Carnegie Hall program will feature songs from his recently released All Days are Nights: Songs for Lulu, as well as selections from Rufus Does Judy [Garland] at Carnegie Hall.
