"Rough Draft" New Work by R. LAND October 6, 2012

Rough Draft is a collection of new paintings by Atlanta artist R.Land based on images taken out of the pages of his sketch books and doodle pads from the last 20 years. This solo exhibition, his first Atlanta gallery show in 20 years, presents a new direction for the artist. Instead of finishing these raw sketches or using them as source material, R. Land is keeping them at a primitive level, and in turn showcasing and augmenting their unique charm and perspective.

Born in raised in Jacksonville Florida, R. Land moved to Atlanta in the 80s where he has lived and worked ever since. A prolific artist and illustrator, R. Land's work is easily distinguished by his distinctive line work and his skewed, often demented, characters.

R. Land has a knack for creating iconic images, often hilariously placed in the streets, most notably Loss Cat, Little Bunny Foo Foo, and Pray For ATL.

R. Land's work has created logos, signs, album covers etc. for a number of local and national bands, festivals, stores, and everybody else under the sun. His character designs are featured in the Adult Swim show "Soul Quest Overdrive" starring H. Jon Benjamin, David Cross, Kristen Schaal, and Gavin Mclnnes.
