While she is the daughter of country music icon Johnny Cash, Rosanne Cash took a different path throughout her own very substantial career. With a velvet voice and intimate charm, Cash has stepped out from her father’s shadow and blossomed into a major star with hits like “No Memories Hangin’ Round” and the Grammy-winning “I Don’t Know Why You Don’t Want Me.” She has released a string of albums, including Seven Year Ache, Rhythm & Romance, King’s Record Shop and Black Cadillac, racking up 10 Grammy nominations and a stunning 11 #1 hit singles in the process. For this SFJAZZ date, Cash performs songs from her 2009 CD, The List. Based on a list of 100 great American songs given to Cash by her father, the record features collaborators Bruce Springsteen, Elvis Costello, Wilco’s Jeff Tweedy and Rufus Wainwright. It is considered a landmark recording in the annals of American music.
