Friday Firehouse Films finish Shakespearean Love month Friday, February 29, with the romance classic: "Romeo and Juliet." The 1968 version is considered to be the best ever - starring real teens in this classic love story.

This gorgeous movie - shot on location in Italy - stars British actor Leonard Whiting (17 years old) and Argentinean beauty Olivia Hussey (15). Director Franco Zeffirelli created a stunning adaptation with more action, humor and sexiness than has ever been seen in the tale. Italy's magnificent renaissance architecture provides supporting players. The balcony scene was shot at the Palazzo Borghese, built by Cardinal Scipione Borghese in the 16th century, in Artena, 20 miles south of Rome. Other scenes were filmed in Siena (at Palazzo Piccolomini) and at a Romanesque church in Tuscania, 50 miles northwest of Rome.

"Romeo and Juliet" won two Oscars for Best Costume Design and Best Cinematography.

The film is Rated PGand runs for 138 minutes.The Firehouse Theatre doors open at 6:30 with the film beginning promptly at 7. Tickets at the door are $5. We also offer a "10 Pass" for $40 that is fully transferable and never expires. It can be used for multiple entries to the same film.
