I'm happy to present another showcase in an ongoing series to feature local and regional postpunk, gothrock, and deathrock music.
This time around it's:

ROMANCE

More than the sum of its influences, Romance brings back the sensibility and soul of the postpunk 80's, a realm of broken hearts, isolation, depression, bridled by optimism, hope, and drive to make it through it all. They recall elements of Echo and the Bunnymen, Chameleons UK, Joy Division, and many other key bands of the past, but they propel it through the future with a forward-driving sound that compells you to dance through the pain. Come feel the heartache of Romance!

JUPITER CRASH

A very solid band with a bold sound that has elements of Killing Joke, Lords of the New Church, early Cult, to name a few. They've been out of action for a while working with a new guitarist, but they're back, with new material and a new drive, bringing back the epic dark rock sound.

THE DAUGHTERS OF BRISTOL

A recent transplant from St. Louis, they've been settling in Seattle for the past year, writing new material. Whereas too many bands feel the need to fill in every nanosecond with flourishes, fills, and overproduction, DoB pares it down, recalling the minimal drum-machine goth rock of very early Sisters of Mercy, with the addition of tasteful melodic embellisments that reminds me of Peter Murphy's solo work. They're promising a short set with some new material, so do come early to catch them.

DJ COLDHEART

Well, yes it's me. If you've attended Isolation, you know what I do. I will fill in the empty spaces during the night with my signature blend of dark postpunk, deathrock, batcave, and other dark tunes. Stick around afterwards; it'll be a gothic punk death rock dance party!
Sure, it's the same night as Covenant, but if you're more in the mood for bands driven by primal spirit than by machines, then by all means come on by--and at $5, it's a quarter of the cost.
