After 8 years of Bush’s “leadership” and 2+ years of election coverage, Barack Obama will be inaugurated as 44th President of the United States on Tuesday, January 20th, 2009. annie*rock invites New Yorkers of legal drinking age to celebrate the changing of the guard at Arlene’s Grocery starting at 8pm. Rockbama! A Political Party for the People! features three of NYC’s greatest up-and-coming rock bands (plus one from Philly). In order of appearance: catchy pop co-eds Twice As Bright, husband & wife garage rock duo Victor Victor Band (from Philadelphia!), roller-girl punksters Kissy Kamikaze, and irresistible rocker boys Rich Girls, all hosted by comic Giulio Gallarotti. Between acts, we’ll pay tribute to the end of an error with a video slideshow of Bush’s “greatest moments”, complete with not-to-be-missed pronunciations, eye-catching displays of physical comedy, and shoe-dodging drama fit for the leader of the Free World! annie*rock knows G.W. has left New Yorkers feeling his legacy in their wallets, so this party is Recession priced: $6 at the door, or better yet, $3 per person when you RSVP by email to [email protected].

More information on the performers:

Twice As Bright (8:00pm) is “a pop explosion fueled by hooks you'll swear must grow on trees outside the singer's Brooklyn window” (Pittsburgh Post Gazette). Songwriter Greg Hoy writes “hooks that'll bounce through your head well after the song's end” (Punk Planet). Performing as a 5 piece with cello and Wurlitzer piano augmenting the standard guitar/bass/drums format, Twice As Bright is excited to perform songs from their debut recording out now on Brooklyn label White Shoe Records. www.myspace.com/twiceasbright.

Victor Victor Band (9:00pm) is a whirlwind of sound and energy; their motto is “see 2, hear 5”. Jamie plays guitar and sings while Danielle plays drums and keyboard simultaneously. Voted 2008 Best Unsigned Band by the readers of Philadelphia STYLE Magazine, Victor Victor Band is celebrating the release of their debut album, Chatterbox. Origivation Magazine says “Chatterbox is a great fun listen from beginning to end... the rip roaring guitar playing is a standout...” Don’t miss this husband-and-wife raw, energized rock duo. www.victorvictorband.com.
Kissy Kamikaze (10:00pm) is a fast, fierce, no frills, punk-rock band from New York City. Self-described as “3 broads and a male bass player who now gets his period at the same time”, Kissy Kamikaze’s songs are loud, 3-chord parties in themselves. Formed from x-members of a slew of semi-established bands including X-Possibles, Metro Stylee, INDK (Go-Kart Records), Morning Glory, Dirty Mary and Lady Unluck, and boasting two roller derby babes, Kissy Kamikaze is like bacon, making a good thing even better. www.myspace.com/kissykamikaze

Rich Girls (11:00pm) are a rock-n-roll band based in New York City. Their interests include fame and fortune. MTV.com reviewing a recent performance says, "Front man Matt Basile is strutting, staggering and spitting whip-smart lyrics like Exile-era Mick Jagger crossed with Ziggy-era David Bowie. Guitarists Sean Kensing and Mike Vitacco are trading licks and lines. Drummer Jamie Alegre is owning his kit like it's Madison Square Garden... The sound is thundering around the surrounding forest and valley. It's truly impressive." That’s right, no girls in Rich Girls – just rock n’ roll. www.richgirlsnyc.com.
