We are trying to raise money for Prader Willi Syndrome Association (PWSA UK) as a deaf couple have a deaf son with PWS.

In brief Prader Willi Syndrome is;

PWS is a genetic condition, happens when a gene is missing from the 15th chromosome. It causes floppiness in babies at birth, this is due to a weak muscle tone in the whole of the body including the face therefore it is difficult for them to suck milk

That?s why they start to crawl, walk etc later than most babies. They also have learning disability, can be mild, and can be severe. The worst of PWS is the hunger, from about 1-4 years old, they start to want more to eat, and eat more than they should if not controlled. This is because part of the syndrome, they cannot tell when they are full, and tend to eat a lot and will try anything to get food, break into kitchen fridge and cupboards, or even steal from shops. If their eating patterns are not kept under control, their weight will increase and become morbid obese. This can lead to other medical conditions caused by obesity.

PWSA UK is the only organisation supporting families in the UK with PWS, offering information and advice. They also raise awareness amongst professionals.
