Cao Fei: RMB City

Thu, Oct 14, 2010-Sun, Jan 9, 2011

RMB City is a realm, within the virtual world of Second Life, created by the Chinese artist Cao Fei. The city, a reflection of China’s urban explosion, is also meant to be a site where the art community can go online, participate in projects within the digital cosmos, and explore the boundaries between the real and virtual worlds. Three videos from 2009 document life in the city, Birth of RMB City, Live in RMB City, and People’s Limbo in RMB City. In addition to the videos, visitors are offered the opportunity to log into Second Life and explore the world of RMB City for themselves.
