In honor of our partnership with the Cobb Branch of the NAACP, Kennesaw State University presents the Ritz Chamber Players – the nation’s premiere all African-American chamber ensemble. As the NAACP marks its 100th Anniversary, the Cobb Branch marks its own 70 years of progress in the fight for equality, and KSU salutes both organizations for their contributions to our nation and our local community.
The Ritz Chamber Players, founded in 2002 by clarinetist and artistic director Terrance Patterson, made its highly successful début concert at New York’s Weill Recital Hall in Carnegie Hall to a standing room only crowd. Critics proclaimed the group’s performance “extraordinary . . . vital and fresh.” The ensemble celebrated its international radio début on the BBC World Service with a concert broadcast to more than 40 countries, and its first national television appearance on the 37th Annual NAACP Image Awards – most fitting in light of this special occasion.
Join us for this momentous black-tie evening with the Ritz Chamber Players and delight in their stunning program, which ranges from the expressive Dvořák Piano Quartet No. 2 to the vibrant work of famed African-American composer James Lee, III.
