Rise Up Against Cancer Benefit-

On Thursday, May 7th 2009, Nashville will be the packed with people on a mission to raise awareness for a disease that affects 1.2 million individuals each year. With more than 200 different types of cancer, the disease can develop in over 60 different organs in the body. Cancer has most likely affected all of you, if not personally, by means of a family member or friend. Derek Stroker, a Nashville based singer/songwriter knows first hand the sorrows of having family members with this illness. “I have seen cancer take my grandmother, and now it is on a mission to claim 2 of my aunts,” says Derek.

He is on a personal mission to do everything he can to make people realize that there is something that all of us can do. Weather it is volunteering some of your time at a center, or donating towards treatments, any little thing can help. Derek’s new release “Rise and Shine”, which is dedicated to his grandmother, has been a great motivator for him to keep reaching for the stars. “I know I am only one, but if I can reach one more person, they have to opportunity to reach another and so on.” It’s no secret that Cancer is here to stay. On the other hand thousands of organizations and centers out there to help people in need.

Derek Stroker will be joining Steel Magnolia, Will Champlin, Cade Doyle, and Brittany Moses at The Rutledge in Nashville to put on a benefit show. There will be opportunities for fans and friends to donate towards the fight against cancer. Each person at the event will be helping this cause, as a portion of each ticket will also be donated. So on Thursday May 7th 2009, please join Derek Stroker and Rise Up Against Cancer!
