A renowned athlete and lauded community leader, Linwood Sexton ’48 graduated from the University of Wichita with a bachelor’s degree in education. The standout Shocker football player was named All-Missouri Valley Conference First Team three times and led WU to the Raisin Bowl his senior year. A charter inductee in the Shocker Sports Hall of Fame and a Kansas Sports Hall of Fame honoree, Sexton holds Wichita State’s career rushing record with 1,995 yards. He taught school at Wichita’s L’Ouverture Elementary and later became area sales manager at Hiland Dairy, also in Wichita. Active in many community and educational ventures, Sexton has served on the Kansas Board of Regents, the Citizens Advisory Committee for Civil Rights in Agriculture, among others. His tireless work for equal opportunity and social justice has earned him the Brotherhood Award from the National Conference of Christians and Jews.
