SAN FRANCISCO OPERA PRODUCTION

Rigoletto, by Giuseppe Verdi

"A veritable hit parade of arias, duets and ensembles, this opera runs the gamut from jocularity to deep pathos."

THE SCENE
The court of the Duke of Mantua during the Renaissance

THE STORY
The hunch-backed court jester Rigoletto is deeply bitter about his own deformity, which gives an edge to the continual barbs he hurls at party guests of his licentious boss, the Duke of Mantua. The only source of joy in Rigoletto’s life is his innocent daughter Gilda. When the jester finally goes too far, he provokes a curse from his victim, with Gilda paying the final price.

I've never been to the opera! My first opera! I'm going to dress all fancy-like. (I'll probably be the only person dressed all fancy-like... people don't do that anymore, do they?)

I still wear a suit and tie and my GF loves an excuse for a new outfit. I'd rather have people go casually than not go, but I do prefer to dress well for special events and opera is always a special event for me.

Yes, I agree so much with everything you said that I'm left with nothing else to say!

Ooh, I just noticed SFist reviewed it.
