ride-along with "To The Tar Sands" Alberta cycling tour Aug. 23

Join 20 cyclists completing the Sierra Youth Coalition’s “To the Tar Sands” bike tour as they cycle in to Calgary on August 23rd. Their trip begins in Waterton-Glacier National Park on August 15 and culminates three weeks later in Fort MacKay.

The group of cyclists composed of individuals from across Canada, will cycle from Waterton National Park north across Alberta to Fort MacKay where the cyclists will see for themselves the Alberta tar sands, the biggest mega-industrial project in the world. The cyclists plan to engage the various stakeholders affected by the development across the province in an open dialogue, while collecting stories and images from the tar sands. Along the way, the will be joined by local supporters in Critical Mass bike rallies and other events.

Meet up with the group in the parking lot at North Glenmore Park (7305 24th Street SW) at 3:00 pm and join them as they cycle through the city to Community Natural Foods downtown store for a media event and some refreshments courtesy of Community Natural Foods.

Everyone is welcome. An evening documentary screening/panel discussion event following the bike tour is TBA.
