American photographer Richard Avedon worked in New York from the 1950s through to the 21st century. He is highly regarded for revolutionizing the genre of portraiture and is known for his depictions of politicians, artists, models, and Hollywood stars, among them Audrey Hepburn, Bob Dylan, Marilyn Monroe, and Andy Warhol. Avedon created some of the most iconic works of the 20th century. His influence in the world of fashion photography created the transition from lifeless modeling to the emotionally compelling images we see today.
