ACCLAIMED TOURING FILM FESTIVAL
RESFEST HITS PORTLAND, OREGON FOR THE FIRST TIME

Biggest tour yet will land in 13 Countries on Six Continents in over 30 Cities

(New York, NY September 20, 2004) ? As part of its 2004 Tour, RESFEST will touch down in Portland, Oregon on October 22-24 for the first time in the festival?s eight-year history. RESFEST Portland will be presented by the Northwest Film Center at the historic Guild Theatre in association with local RESFEST partner TAOW Productions. RESFEST 2004 will travel with its celebrated program of innovative works on its most extensive tour yet to over 30 cities around the world.

The Festival will showcase the year?s best short films, music videos and animation through a mix of screenings, parties, workshops and live music events.

?We are excited to join Portland?s renowned creative community by adding the city to RESFEST?s annual tour,? says Jonathan Wells, RESFEST Festival Director. ?Over the years we?ve gotten many requests to bring the festival to the Portland area, and I?m thrilled that this year it is finally happening.?

RESFEST programmers received over 1,500 short film submissions and traveled the world to curate a wide array of programs, including: a retrospective of the works of director Jonathan Glazer (celebrated filmmaker responsible the feature film Sexy Beast, the forthcoming Birth starring Nicole Kidman, award-winning commercials such as Guinness ?Surfer? and groundbreaking music videos for UNKLE, Radiohead and Jamiroquai); a program of rare works from acclaimed UK animation collective Shynola, which continues to bring home awards such as the 2003 MTV Award for Best Effects, 2003 CAD Best Director Award and the 2004 D&AD Best Director Award for their work for artists such as Blur, The Rapture, Queens of the Stone Age and Radiohead; three collections of international short films; Bushwhacked!, a program of politically oriented shorts; By Design, a showcase of experimental design films; and three music video programs (Cinema Electronica, Videos that Rock, and Warp Vision, a celebration of 15 years of videos from the renowned electronic label Warp Records).

This year?s RESFEST identity was created by prolific Los Angeles-based illustrators kozyndan and renowned Venice, California-based design and production studio Motion Theory. Kozyndan have made a name for themselves in the underground art scene with their panoramic illustrations of global cityscapes inhabited by quirky characters. Motion Theory, which has garnered numerous AICP, AIGA, D&AD, and Art Director?s Club awards, offers a full range of services, including graphic design, animation, editorial, live-action, print design, and concept creation. This year?s festival opener mixes live action and animation into a dazzling opening sequence that will run before all film programs and is sure to please viewers worldwide.

RESFEST is collaborating with TAOW Productions to present the Portland edition of the Global Tour and TAOW Productions are producing a number of events to round out the local festival programming. An opening night after-party is planned, post the Cinema Electronica screening, along with a Sunday brunch in a downtown Portland location.

RESFEST has expanded its reach, traveling to many new cities for the first time including Austin, Boston, Singapore, Zurich and Dublin, as well as a full UK tour. Karol Martesko-Fenster, President of RES Media Group, says, ?Over the past eight years RESFEST has built a global audience for the innovative artists we showcase. Significantly our audience of international creators is taking inspiration from the festival, affecting their own creative pursuits and in many cases influencing pop culture itself.?
