Social changemakers and technological forerunners come together from around the Triangle (Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill), NC at Net Tuesday events to mix, swap stories and ideas, build new relationships, and reinforce the online NetSquared (http://www.netsquared.org) and 501 Tech Club (http://groups.nten.org/group.htm?mode=home&pid=0&igid=6691) communities.

We are fortunate to have Ruby Sinreich - Co-Director of Communications, Fellowship of Reconciliation be the featured presenter at this inaugural meeting (see summary below). The aim will also be to get to know each other and collaboratively evolve the format and future agenda to suit our collective goals.
Cheers,
The Organizing Committee

Don't Push the River, It Flows by Itself

Many nonprofit leaders worry that the demands of keeping up with the latest online tricks and tools will detract from the important work of advancing their mission. However, utilizing the right tools in the right situations can serve to support your existing work, and sometimes even save time too. We don't all have to be experts on the latest internet trends; but a small investment in understanding can give you the capacity to effectively take advantage of online tools, and know when and how it makes sense to apply them. In this session, we will look at some examples from progressive advocacy organizations; and discuss the big picture of how "Web 2.0" tools and ideas change communication for today's nonprofit.

Takeaways:

1. A better understanding of networked communication, a.k.a. social media, Web 2.0, social networking, online grassroots, etc.
2. Examples of how networked communication is impacting the work of nonprofit organizations
3. Strategic framework for network-based approach to outreach and advocacy

Glad to see the meeting unfold. Sounds like a nice presentation. I won't be able to attend since I host the Triangle Open Source Lab monthly meetings on 4th Thursday evenings. Have fun just the same, though!
