CHICAGO: Each summer, threewalls works with Chicago Public Schools on thinktank – a series of workshops, lectures and studio work that pairs a small group of CPS art teachers with local and visiting contemporary artists. At the conclusion of thinktank, CPS teachers present their work at an exhibition at threewalls.

In summer 2009 teachers Diana Betout, Jan Heyn-Cubacub, Gerald Gomez and Ed Pino worked with threewalls summer resident artists Kang-hyun Ahn (Chicago/Seoul), Gitte Bog, (Mexico City), CamLab (Anna Mayer and Jemima Wyman) (Melbourne/Los Angeles) and Susan Lee-Chun (Miami). Through lectures and workshops with these artists around interactive practice, performance and collaboration they produced projects throughout the year with colleagues and students that will be on view for Répondez s’il Vous Plait.

Diana Betout built and provided a simple cardboard set and props for a portable theater that traveled to different classrooms in Chicago and was documented as students engaged Betout’s set for their own productions; Heyn-Cubacub used a simple white sheet in a dance production where dancers were back lit and their silhouettes projected onto the scrim in high contrast; Gomez sent a white painter’s suit to colleagues to interact with and document based on their own practices; and Ed Pino created soup recipes based on vegetable portraits inspired by Giuseppe Arcimboldo. Working with summer students this year to design their own portraits with their favorite foods, Pino will serve one portrait soup on Saturday, July 17th for the exhibition closing and artist talk(s).

Join us July 10th from 4-7pm for a reception with the artists and again July 17th from 3-5pm for an artist roundtable and soup with Ed Pino.
