An afternoon of FREE performances and film featuring established and emerging contemporary African artists working in music, film, and literature, in celebration of the exhibition Yinka Shonibare MBE. Highlights includes the film 'This Is My Africa' (Zina Saro-Wiwa, UK/Nigeria, 2008, 50 minutes), about the Africa that exists in the hearts and minds of native and non-native individuals; a dramatized reading of contemporary texts co-presented by the Chinua Achebe Center for African Literature and Languages; as well as live music performances in the Sculpture Garden by Rwandese electro-pop artist Iyadede and Sierra Leone’s reggae and hip hop ambassadors, Bajah and the Dry Eye Crew.
