RELEASE PARTY - 2009 Female Mechanics Calendar December 13, 2008

Join us in celebrating the release of the 2009 Female Mechanics Calendar, the third by photographer Sarah Lyon.

The feminist project documents women in the mechanics trade, challenging stereotypes of the tool-girl, pin-up media familiar to shop culture as well as those operating within that culture. The 14month calendar features a variety of real female mechanics - automobile, motorcycle, jet aircraft, bicycle, hot rod, race car, hybrid, and diesel - on the job in their shop environment.

Professional photographer, instructor, and mechanic herself, Lyon has traveled over 26,000 miles documenting female mechanics over the last three years, using the same diversity of vehicles as her subjects work on. Her journey and personal struggle finding female mechanics are both the purpose and the backdrop of the calendar project and a theme of her art at large.

Luscious Garage, a hybrid repair shop, hosts rotating art shows in its green facility.
