LyricL

One of the UK's leading female emcees, London based rapper and spokenword artist Nkechi da LyricL is British born with Nigerian origins. Her parents hail from Imo State (now Abia State), Isuikwuato and settled in the UK after fleeing during the Biafran War. Her father loved African jazz, gospel, High Life, Oriental Brothers and King Sunny Ade. “He used to entertain us when we were young by making human beatbox, chest tap-drum sounds and playing his hands as wind sounds … plus my Mommie dances and sings in her own key of happiness to this very day. That vibe and energy continues in my current works.”

Her long-awaited debut album "AMAZED" has now been mixed in Atlanta by DazIkue (BB Boogie/Bugz In The Attic). LyricL promises, “a refreshing new outlook on spoken word hip hop,” a myriad of musical styles (Heidi Vogel, Kevin Mark Trail and DJ Spinna feature) and unapologetic originality. “Lyrical dexterity and openness to innovate, elate and debate,” she declares.

An often sought after and keen creative ally, LyricL has featured, recorded and toured with a range of talented musicians and producers including MJ Cole, Nathan Haines, Mark De Clive Lowe & Bugz In The Attic. She has also supported Izzi Dunn, The Roots, Omar, Incognito, Big Daddy Kane, Xantone Blacq and Ty.

Lylit’s music fails to follow the usual paths of a blue-eyed soul singer. No manufactured pop princess, the multi-instrumentalist writes, produces, and performs every song on her record Evasion.

In truth, Lylit‚s songs are as emancipated as the artist herself, thanks to support from co-producer and drummer Andreas Lettner. With few exceptions, every other instrument is 100% Lylit, from the analogue synthesizers on Change to the intricate keys on Out of Line.

More than a musician, Lylit writes with an unsentimental director’s pen, specializing in metaphor rich storytelling. Unsatisfied with solitary liberation, Lylit‚s inspired lyrics on Evasion heavily mine themes of letting go. Engaged in her own emancipation from typical R&B love letter conventions, Lylit pens cinematic slice-of-life narratives not to teach, but to consider.
