Hot on the heels of its acclaimed new art space in Chinatown, Ludlow 38 (a co-operative venture with Kunstverein München), the Goethe-Institut New York is opening Goethe-Institut Wyoming Building, a new satellite event space at Wyoming Building in the thriving Bowery Arts District.

The new space will formally debut a full schedule of innovative events in March 2009, after an aesthetic reinvention by the Berlin-based firm ifau + Jesko Fezer, a working group of architects focusing on interrelated, interdisciplinary projects— including architectural and urban design, research, installations and events in the urban context. In the meantime, we'll be launching a new series, "Reinventing Goethe," to explore the process of creating a new cultural venue in the heart of the downtown scene.

Curated by Joseph Grima of the Storefront for Art and Architecture in collaboration with ifau + Jesko Fezer, the series will kick off on Thursday, November 20, at 7pm with a discussion and reception on-site at Goethe-Institut Wyoming Building, located at 5 East 3rd Street. Featuring Joseph Grima, Christoph Schmidt and Jesko Fezer, the format will build on the popular, standing-room only Negotiations events we staged in May at Ludlow 38 for ifau + Jesko Fezer's New York show, exploring the potential of social architecture. Admission is free and open to the public (please note: as we are between contracts and currently do not have liability insurance for our new space, guests will need to sign a waiver upon entering our premises at Goethe-Institut Wyoming Building at the November 20th event).
