In the JICC Auditorium
The JICC is proud to present a lecture by legendary judo-ka Yasuhiro Yamashita. Winning all of his matches outright by ippon, Mr. Yamashita earned the gold medal in the judo men’s open division at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. He also has won four gold medals at the Judo World Championships. After retiring from competitive judo with a record of 203 consecutive wins, Yamashita, an 8th degree black belt, is now engaged in training young judo-ka worldwide. He has been utilizing judo to promote cross-cultural interaction throughout Asia, the Middle East, Russia and North America.

In conjunction with visits to schools and universities in the DC area, Mr. Yamashita, who is internationally renowned as one of the strongest judo-ka in history, will give a lecture at the JICC about rei or respect, which is the most fundamental element of judo. Following the lecture there will be a demonstration by two of his students who have competed in all-Japan judo championships.

This event is free and open to the public. Reservations are required.
