Some artists appear born to perform, and Regina Spektor would look amiss doing anything else. Her Russian roots and downtown New York residence provide ample precedence for her quirky, completely individualistic style, which garners some comparisons to Björk. Spektor's recently released Begin to Hope demonstrates her breathtaking piano playing, ad-hoc drum skills, commanding vocals and endearing lyrics, stacked with gems such as "Field Below", "On the Radio" and the twisty "20 Years of Snow". Her recent festival tour earned her a global audience, so the move to a large concert hall is one well-deserved and, frankly, overdue. (MeM)
