Presented in conjunction with the exhibition Washi Tales, this very special performance brings to life the stories contained in sheets of handmade Japanese paper, or washi. In Japanese culture, authentic beauty is found in the old, and washi is made when existing paper is disassembled, beaten to a pulp, and stretched anew on bamboo frames. An extraordinary ensemble of performers and musicians will take the stage to portray this delicate, cultural, and emotional tale created by distinguished paper artist Kyoko Ibe. A conversation with the artist will precede the performance.
