The Hokin Gallery at Columbia College Chicago will host RE:COLLECTIONS – Collecting and Archiving as a Creative Practice, an exhibition featuring installations by students exploring collecting, not just as a hobby, but as an artistic medium.

In the exhibition the artists take on a range of subjects as diverse as the material world itself. With items ranging from hours of NSYNC performances on VHS tapes, to eerie portraits of strangers, to Chicago sports paraphernalia, students from the Art & Design Department, the Department of Exhibitions and Performance Spaces and the Arts Entertainment & Media Management Department have turned a variety of collectables into works of art.

After roaming flea markets and thrift stores, sifting through family attics and searching archives, newspapers, library picture files, and even their own apartments, the artists’ distinctive collections are presented by the student-run Hokin Project in their very first exhibition.
