Recent Paintings
by Jenny Dubnau
Works on paper
by Elena Sisto
Bucheon is pleased to present two wonderful New York artists Jenny Dubnau and Elena Sisto who will be presenting recent work. The show will open with a reception for the artists Friday November 21, 2008, from 6 to 8pm and run through January 3, 2009.

Jenny paints realist portraits using photographs as references. Jenny is interested in letting people's physical flaws and emotional vulnerability show. She also chooses models who are her friends which always has an impact on the energy and feeling of the painting. She selects a picture to work from that has an interesting color dynamic, light perspective and according to Jenny, an enigmatic, changed facial expression and body language.

This will be her fourth show at Bucheon. She has also been the recipient of the Guggenheim Foundation Fellowship, Tiffany grant and Pollack Krasner grant and shown extensively.

Elena describes them as "having an open space, spontaneous in a way that only water media could allow. There are cross currents, meshes with references made to folk traditions, comics and contemporary life."

Elena has always worked with universal themes and utilizes a distinct vocabulary in communicating her ideas. They're personal and funny and cover "love and relatedness, bumping and knocking against each other, falling and waiting." Elena follows a stream of consciousness in creating her paintings with titles like "The Curator", "the Artist" and "el Museo".

Elena has shown extensively in her home base, New York City, as well as nationally with her most recent exhibit at the American University Museum in Washington,D.C.

No charge.
