The National Children’s Museum (NCM) will kick off the second year of its citizen science project, Ready, Set, Glow!, with a day of special family friendly firefly activities at the Launch Zone June 5. The Museum recently announced the launch of a new game and enhancements to its Ready, Set, Glow! website, www.ReadySetGlow.org, designed to help kids learn more about fireflies and how the way they care for the environment impacts these insects.

The Museum will celebrate the project with an engaging event, featuring a glow-in-the-dark firefly show and an interactive presentation. In addition, kids will have the opportunity to create a fun firefly art project and make their own firefly necklace.

Then, families can continue the celebration on June 12 when they are invited to join special guest librarian Anne-Marie Ramsey, Manager of the Upper Marlboro Library, Prince George’s County Memorial Library System, and learn more about fireflies through crafts and coloring projects. Story hours featuring firefly songs, finger plays, and rhymes will be held throughout the day.
