Bill Lofy, communications director of Wellstone Action, will give a reading from his biography of the late senator from Minnesota, titled ?Paul Wellstone: The Life of a Passionate Progressive,? on Tuesday, Oct 27, at 7 p.m. at Carleton College?s Gould Library Athenaeum. A book signing will follow. The event is free and open to the public.

Fred Greenstein, professor of politics at Princeton University wrote, ?This vividly written book captures the life and personal qualities of the late Senator Paul Wellstone. In so doing it provides an illuminating gloss on Max Weber?s seminal exposition of the political vocation. It is a jewel of a book.?

Lofy?s book is a tale of Wellstone?s resilience and compassion for others. The book chronicles Wellstone?s life from his humble beginnings in Washington D.C. to his tragic death in a plane crash on October 25, 2002.

Lofy?s longtime personal relationship with the late Senator began at a time of uncertainty in Lofy?s life. While studying at the University of Wisconsin, he accepted an internship in Wellstone?s Washington office that benefited him academically?and gave him a sense of purpose in life. Upon graduation in 1995, Lofy accepted a job on Wellstone?s first reelection campaign as the Senator?s travel aid. He went on to serve a two-year stint in the Peace Corps before returning Wellstone?s Minnesota office.

Wellstone Action is an organization created to carry on Paul and Sheila Wellstone?s legacy.
